Chapter 22

1 THEN the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead; for raiders had come to the camp and slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

2 Twenty-two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

3 And he walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for he was the son of Ahab's sister.

4 He also committed many sins and did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab; for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction,

5 Because he walked after their counsel, and went with Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramath-gilead; and the Arameans smote Joram.

6 And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which he had received at Ramtha, when he fought with Hazael king of Aram. And Ahaziah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel because he was sick.

7 And the destruction of Ahaziah was determined by God, who decreed that he should go to Joram; for when he was come, he went out with Joram to meet Jehu the son of Jamshi, whom the LORD had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab.

8 And when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, he found the princes of Judah and the sons of the brothers of Ahaziah who ministered to Ahaziah and slew them.

9 And he sought Ahaziah and he caught him (for he was hiding in Samaria) and brought him to Jehu; and when they had slain him, they buried him; for they said, He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no one with power to rule over the kingdom.

10 Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the king's sons of the house of Judah.

11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, stole Joash the son of Ahaziah from among the king's sons who were about to be slain, and hid him and his nurse in her bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiadah the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she did not slay him.

12 And he was hid with her in the house of the LORD six Years; and Athaliah reigned over the land.

2 Zweiundvierzig Jahre8141 alt1121 war Ahasja274, da er König4427 ward4427, und regierete ein259 Jahr8141 zu Jerusalem3389. Seine8147 Mutter517 hieß8034 Athalja6271, die Tochter1323 Amris.

3 Und er wandelte1980 auch in den Wegen1870 des Hauses1004 Ahab256; denn seine Mutter517 hielt ihn dazu, daß er gottlos7561 war3289.

4 Darum tat6213 er, das dem7451 HErrn3068 übel gefiel, wie das Haus1004 Ahab256. Denn sie waren seine Ratgeber3289 nach310 seines Vaters1 Tode4194, daß sie ihn5869 verderbeten.

5 Und256 er wandelte nach ihrem Rat6098. Und er zog1980 hin3212 mit Joram3088, dem Sohn1121 Ahabs, dem Könige4428 Israels3478, in den Streit4421 gen Ramoth in Gilead1568 wider Hasael2371, den König4428 zu Syrien. Aber die Syrer758 schlugen5221 Joram3141,

6 daß er5221 umkehrete, sich7725 heilen7495 zu lassen zu Jesreel3157; denn er hatte7200 Wunden4347, die ihm geschlagen waren zu Rama7414, da er stritt3898 mit Hasael2371, dem Könige4428 zu Syrien758. Und256 Asarja, der Sohn1121 Jorams3088, der König4428 Judas, zog hinab3381, zu besehen Joram3088, den Sohn1121 Ahabs, zu Jesreel3157, der krank2470 lag.

7 Denn es war935 von3318 GOtt430 Ahasja274 der Unfall zugefüget, daß er zu Joram3141 käme935 und also mit Joram3088 auszöge wider Jehu3058, den Sohn1121 Nimsis5250, welchen der HErr3068 gesalbet hatte4886, auszurotten das3772 Haus1004 Ahab256.

8 Da nun Jehu3058 Strafe übte8199 am Hause1004 Ahab256, fand4672 er etliche Oberste8269 aus Juda3063 und die Kinder1121 der Brüder251 Ahasjas274, die Ahasja dieneten, und erwürgete sie2026.

9 Und3092 er suchte1875 Ahasja274 und gewann ihn, da3920 er sich2244 versteckt hatte6113 zu Samaria8111. Und er ward zu Jehu3058 gebracht; der tötete4191 ihn, und man559 begrub6912 ihn. Denn sie sprachen: Er ist Josaphats Sohn1121, der nach dem HErrn3068 trachtete1245 von ganzem Herzen3824. Und es war935 niemand mehr3581 aus dem Hause1004 Ahasjas274, der König würde.

10 Da aber Athalja, die Mutter517 Ahasjas274, sah7200, daß ihr Sohn1121 tot war4191, machte sie6271 sich auf6965 und brachte um1696 allen königlichen4467 Samen2233 im Hause1004 Juda3063.

11 Aber Josabeath3090, des Königs4428 Schwester269, nahm3947 Joas3101, den Sohn1121 Ahasjas274, und stahl1589 ihn unter8432 den Kindern1121 des Königs4428, die1323 getötet4191 wurden, und tat5414 ihn mit seiner Amme3243 in eine Schlafkammer. Also verbarg5641 ihn Josabeath3090, die Tochter1323 des Königs4428 Joram3088, des Priesters3548 Jojada3077 Weib802 (denn sie6271 war Ahasjas274 Schwester) vor6440 Athalja, daß er nicht getötet4191 ward.

12 Und er ward4427 mit ihnen im Hause1004 Gottes430 versteckt2244 sechs8337 Jahre8141, weil Athalja6271 Königin war im Lande776.
